My name is John Thompson, and I have been teaching mathematics and computer science here at Central High since 2019. I firmly believe that mathematical and computational thinking practices hold the keys to empowering students in our increasingly technological society, and that they are an essential foundation for those who wish to be on the forefront of future technological advancement.
Before teaching, I used to work as an IT professional. Much of my time was spent training people how to use new technologies and how to adapt their business practices to leverage their technology to the fullest. Over time it's fair to say that I grew a little addicted to helping other people in achieving little "Eureka!" moments. I eventually also rediscovered my childhood passion for all things mathematics, and it wasn't too long before I had a "Eureka!" moment of my own, and decided to pursue a teaching career.
I have been deliriously married to my enchanting wife, Summer Thompson, and hopelessly cursed with raising the most wonderful daughter imaginable, Kaylee. I mean, how am I supposed to get things done around the house with all those warm hugs and lilting giggles of joy flitting about the place? It's enough to drive a guy mad, I tell you!
