Biography
Lt Col David A. Cumings is the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor for Carroll County Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, at Central High School, Carrollton, Georgia. He is responsible for teaching Aviation History, Science of Flight, Exploring Space, and Physical Training. He leads 120 Cadets in a progressive team building and leadership program that includes various extracurricular activities such as a competition Cyber Patriot Team, Raider fitness competition teams, and Color Guards.
Prior to his current position, Lt Col Cumings served as the Commander of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 165 at Georgia Institute of Technology. There he was the head of the University’s Air and Space Force Aerospace Studies department, and instructed senior and sophomore courses on National Security, Leadership Responsibilities, and Team and Leadership Fundamentals. Lt Col Cumings was responsible for approximately 100 Department of the Air Force recruits each year and commissioned a total of 65 officers into the United States Air Force or United States Space Force. After this assignment, Lt Col Cumings retired from Active Duty on 1 August 2023.
Lt Col Cumings was a career Intercontinental Ballistic Missile operator. He served in various capacities in the nuclear community within Missile Squadrons, Operations Groups, 20th Air Force, and Air Force Global Strike Command to include Missile Combat Crew Commander, Flight Commander, Section Chief, Instructor, Evaluator, Inspector, Executive Officer, Chief of Standardization and Evaluations, and Director of Operations.
He was born and raised in northern Colorado, married Debbie Cumings (McKamey) of Worland, Wyoming, and together they have two children. Their son, Braylon and daughter, Blakelee were both born in Colorado and have lived in Wyoming, Louisiana, North Dakota, Montana, and now Georgia.
