Dear Parents and/or Guardian,
The Carroll County School System began implementation of the
No Child Left Behind Act during the 2002-2003 school year. The Act, signed by President Bush on January 8, 2002, is designed to increase educational opportunities for all students. After the spring 2009 test results were released, Carroll County has seven Title I “Distinguished” schools: Bowdon Elementary, Central Elementary, Mt. Zion Elementary, Roopville Elementary, Villa Rica Elementary, and Whitesburg Elementary. Three other schools were also recognized as “Distinguished”: Bowdon High, Central Middle, and Mt. Zion Middle.
Schools that must offer “School Choice” are Bay Springs Middle, Central High, Jonesville Middle, Sharp Creek Elementary, Temple High, Villa Rica High, and
Villa Rica Middle.
The school choice options for middle and high schools include: Mt.
Zion Middle, Central Middle, Bowdon High, and Mt. Zion High. School Choice forms are available on the Carroll County Schools website or may be picked up at the Carroll County Board of Education office. All schools will be offering educational assistance for students needing additional academic support. Please return completed forms to the Carroll County Board of Education office; Attn: Diana Sternberger.
We hope that as a parent, you will become involved in our school initiatives as we continue to monitor student achievement and set high expectations. We encourage you to get to know your child’s teacher, class routines, and expectations. We are proud of the professional credentials of our teaching staff and will furnish, upon request, the professional qualifications of any of your child’s classroom teachers. This includessubject areas in which the teacher is certified, the major fields and degrees held by the teacher, and the qualifications of the paraprofessional who provides services to your child.
If you have any questions, please call your child’s school or Diana Sternberger, Program Director at 770-832-3568.
Sincerely,
John F. Zauner
Superintendent
