Central High School

Announcements for Tuesday, September 11, 2018

The mission of Central High School is to provide all students with educational opportunities through a challenging curriculum which meets the needs of a diverse school community.

Good morning. As we stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and moment of silence, let us remember the events that occurred 17 years ago today on September 11, 2001.

  • At 7:59 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11, a Boeing 767 with 92 people aboard, takes off from Boston’s Logan International Airport en route to Los Angeles.

  • At 8:14 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175, a Boeing 767 with 65 people aboard, takes off from Boston, also headed for Los Angeles.

  • At 8:20 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 takes off from Dulles International Airport outside of Washington D.C., a Boeing 757 with 64 people aboard, headed for Los Angeles.

  • At 8:46 a.m., the American Airlines Flight 11 crashes into floors 93-99 of the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

  • At 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 crashes into floors 75-85 of the South Tower.

  • At 9:37 a.m., hijackers aboard Flight 77 crash the plane into the Pentagon in Washington D.C., killing 59 on the plane and 125 military and civilian personnel inside the building.

  • At 9:42 a.m., for the first time in history, the Federal Aviation Administration (FFA) grounds all flights over or bound for the continental United States. Some 3,300 commercial flights and 1,200 private planes are guided to airports in Canada and the U.S. over the next two and a half hours.

  • At 9:59 a.m., the South Tower collapses.

  • At 10:28 a.m., the North Tower collapses.

This date will forever be remembered for it’s tragic beginning, for the nearly 3,000 lives lost, and commemorated for the heroic valor and spirit of first responders and Americans across this great country.

Teachers -- Please check dress code and have students get rid of all food from outside vendors. Ask students to spit out gum and remove all head gear. Students must use earbuds, not headphones.
