Central High School’s Community-Based Instruction Partners with UWG

Central High School’s Community-Based Instruction program has partnered with the University of West Georgia’s (UWG) Physical Education Department for more than 12 years. UWG students majoring in Physical Education and Recreation gain valuable insight into working with special needs students. The adaptive physical education course is under the direction of Dr. Ann Merrim and allows UWG students to interact and prepare lessons, meeting the needs of a wide variety of students.

“One of the many benefits to partnering with the University of West Georgia is the availability of learning opportunities as well as the use of enhanced equipment for our students to experience,” said Mrs. Christine Hanson, Central High School Community-Based Instruction teacher. She continued, “We are lucky to have Mr. Jeremiah Fountain teaching in the Central High School Physical Education Department. He is a certified Special Education teacher and brings a more adaptive approach to students’ learning and experiences in his classes.”

Students from University of West Georgia have been invited to participate in local Special Olympics events scheduled for Tuesday, March 26 on the Central High School campus. UWG students will be observing and interacting with athletes from Carroll County and surrounding counties attending the event.

Central High School’s Community-Based Instruction teachers are Mrs. Christine Hanson, Mrs. Kim McCain, Mrs. Aunie Murray, Ms. Katie Fowler, and Mr. Brandon Dailey.
