Carrollton Writers Guild Honors Central High School Students

Central High School students participated in the Creating Writing Contest sponsored by the Carrollton Writers Guild. In the Short Story category, 11th grade student, Julia Claire Wilkins earned 3rd place for her story titled, Flowing Escape and 10th grade student, Jonathan Green earned 2nd place for his piece titled, Thinking Things Through. Kirstyn Dietrich earned 2nd place in the Poetry Awards category for her poem titled, As She Tripped on Purple Flowers. The highest honor, the Carrollton Writers Guild Choice Award was given to Angela Gentry for her poem titled, Third Generation.

 

The High School Creative Writing Contest was established in 1989 in an effort to expand the Carrollton Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Now in its’ 30th year, the writing contest has grown to become a significant event for high school students. The Carrollton Writers Guild maintains close contact with schools in the area, including the University of West Georgia and the public library. The contest encourages and celebrates the writing talent of Carroll County’s young authors and their artistic accomplishments.
