Central High School Recognizes 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees

Central High School honored new members to the Hall of Fame. The 2018 inductees are Sandy Ackey Walton, Tony and Barbara Mashburn, Patrick Erwin, and Dennis Long.

Mrs. Sandy Ackey Walton is a 1996 graduate of Central High School. As a four (4) year varsity starter for the Lady Lions Basketball Team, Mrs. Walton was Team Captain her senior year, named Offensive Player of the Year in 1993 and 1994, Most Valuable Player in 1995 and 1996, and was a member of the All-County First Team all four (4) years in high school. Sandy scored more than 2000 points during her high school career and went on to play basketball for Valdosta State University.

Barbara and Tony Mashburn met while students at Central High School. Both graduated in 1971 and they were married the following year. After studying at Georgia Tech, the University of West Georgia, and Georgia Southern, Tony took over the family business. Barbara earned her education degree at the University of West Georgia, retiring from teaching after 40 years of dedicated service to students. Barbara and Tony have been part of the Central High School Athletic Booster Club since 1995, serving as co-vice presidents from 1997 through 2001. Soon afterwards, the Mashburns became co-presidents giving more of their time and talents to serve the Lion family.

Patrick Erwin graduated with honors from Central High School in 1998. During his tenure at Central he was a member of the Marching Pride Band, an All-Area wrestler, and a member of the soccer team. Patrick attended the University of Georgia where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degree in Music Education. Since 2006, Mr. Erwin has been Director of Bands for Hillgrove High School in Cobb County. Hillgrove is recognized for being one of the top band programs in the southeast, serving more than 300 students each day. Mr. Erwin has been honored at the district, state, and national level for his leadership in music education. He resides in Dallas, Georgia with his wife Aaren and their two sons, William and Andrew.

Dennis Long, Jr. graduated from Central High School in 1997. He was a member of the Boys’ Basketball and Central High School Track Team for all four (4) years. As co-captain of the 1997 Final Four Basketball team, Dennis was honored by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Atlanta Tipoff Club for his outstanding performance on the court. Following graduation, he played for Southern Union State Community College where he was part of two (2) championship teams and was awarded Most Valuable Player honors. Mr. Long continued playing basketball for the University of West Georgia where he led the team in steals and rebounds and to Conference and Regional Championships. Dennis and his wife, Monica, have two (2) children enrolled in Carroll County Schools.
