International Skills Diploma Seal Candidates Shine with Capstone Projects

Central High School presented eight (8) students for International Skills Diploma Seal (ISDS) honors last evening. The Georgia Department of Education (DOE) will review student portfolio submissions as well as score sheets and comments from four (4) local individuals serving as judges of the student work. Once portfolios are reviewed, the DOE will announce ISDS recipients. Local judges scoring Central High School ISDS candidates were Dr. Robert C. Morris, Mr. Ron Shepherd, Ms. Isle Sears and the Honorable John Simpson, Chief Superior Court Judge.

Students prepared detailed reports, food, and shared experiences with judges about their chosen country. Countries selected by the students were Peru, Honduras, Thailand, England, Italy, Germany, Spain, and the Philippines. In preparing Georgia students for a global economy, it is important for students to acquire the interdisciplinary skills they need to be globally competent and competitive. The International Skills Diploma Seal is awarded to graduating high school students who complete the international education curriculum and engage in extracurricular activities and experiences that foster the achievement of global competencies. It is a signal to employers and higher education institutions that a student is prepared to participate in the global economy.

“Our students have the opportunity to not only learn more about our world and its’ international economy; they also learn how they stack up with students around the state. Central High School offers students a deep curricular experience, broadening their global exposure,” said Mr. Jared Griffis, Central High School Principal.

Central High School sponsors of the International Skills Diploma Seal are Dr. Donna Simpson, Mrs. Sarah Hall, and Mrs. Monica Smith.
