Central High School FFA Takes Top Honors in Career Development Events

The Agricultural Sales Team, consisting of Tre Singleton, Marcus Carabello, Matthew Simmons, and Drew Carroll, recently competed in Area events. Central High School’s FFA teams out scored all other schools in Carroll County and finished 6th overall in the Area competition.

Students on the team are in the Agricultural Leadership and Agriculture in the Classroom Program at Central High School. Participants took on the role of Pennington Seed dealers to sell turf grass, cover crop, forage, and wildlife seed. The students were graded on product knowledge, active listening, and building a rapport with the customer. Before the competition, students utilized knowledge from their prior animal and plant science courses to determine the best products for a given scenario.

Victoria Richardson, Central High School’s FFA President, placed first in the Area 1 Job Interview competition. Victoria was awarded a perfect score on both her resume and cover letter as she showcased skills needed to apply for a position in the agricultural industry.

Each part of the event simulates professionalism and employment skills sought out by those hiring in the agricultural industry. Victoria advances to the State Competition which will be held at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in December. Victoria is a student in the Veterinary Science course at Central High School who plans to pursue a degree as a large animal vet

Matthew Simmons’ competition was centered on developing a sales pitch for a potential grass seed purchase by an individual opening a sod business in South Georgia. He prepared product sheets containing turf requirements and establishing prices for the potential buyer. Matthew placed 7th in the competition.

Central High School Agriculture teachers and FFA sponsors are Ms. Laura Williford and Ms. Nikhol Dysart.
