Anya Dunn Recognized as 2017 Georgia Scholar

Central High School’s Anya Dunn has been recognized as a 2017 Georgia Scholar by the Georgia Department of Education. Dunn was one out of 183 seniors from across the state to receive this prestigious honor. According to the Georgia Department of Education, students are selected for excellence in all phases of school life, in community activities, and in the home. Additionally, Georgia Scholars are students who have carried exemplary course loads during their four years of high school; who achieved excellence in all courses; who successfully participated in interscholastic events at their schools and in their communities; and who have assumed active roles in extracurricular activities sponsored by their schools.

“Anya has excelled in academics, arts and athletics, while always being a leader among her peers,” stated Jared Griffis,  Principal of Central High School. “She is truly deserving of this award.” Dunn is in the top 5 percent of her graduating class and has earned numerous awards, including the Georgia Heart of Arts Award, AP Scholar and Honor Award, Certificate of Excellence in: Symphonic Band, Spanish, Honors Physical Science, AP Human Geography and Honors Literature. She has also served in leadership roles in band, Key Club, Student Council, the Spanish Honor Society and as Vice President of her senior class. Dunn plans to attend Maryville College on a full scholarship where she will pursue a double major in biochemistry and sign language interpretation.
