Central High School Celebrates World Read Aloud Day with Ithica Elementary School

Central High School senior Anya Dunn read LIVE using Google Hangout to first grade classes from Ithica Elementary School. In celebration of World Read Aloud Day, Media Specialists Heather Kinard from Ithica Elementary School and Linda Morris from Central High School teamed up to promote reading aloud. Preparation was simple and connected the two schools with the click of a mouse.

Anya selected “Pete the Cat and the New Guy,” as her book to read to Mrs. Brewer and Mrs. Montgomery’s first grade classes. Working with a Chromebook and using Google Hangouts, an online video conference or calling program, Anya was able to read the book at Central High School to students in the Media Center at Ithica Elementary School. “Reading aloud is a great way to start the day. I had a blast chatting and reading to the elementary school students,” said Anya after both schools had signed off.

Upcoming events for Carroll County Schools Media Centers include promoting Digital Learning Day on February 23 and Read Across America Day on March 2.
