Central High School Ag Students Take 1st Place in Area Competition

Central High School agriculture education students placed 1st in the Area 1 Land Judging Career Development Event hosted by Berry College on Tuesday, September 14.

Students evaluated the best use of four areas based factors including: slope, topsoil thickness, subsoil texture, drainage, and effective depth. Participants then recommended cultural, mechanical, and chemical practices to improve the fertility of the land for crop production.

The team consisted of Drew Carroll, Victoria Richardson, Cooper Reichiert and Nick Montalto. The team has been practicing since the beginning of the school year and will continue in preparation for the state competition at the end of October.

Advisors for the Central of Carroll FFA are Laura Williford and Nikhol Dysart. The team would also like to thank the West Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Carroll County Young Farmers for sponsoring the West GA Land Judging competition this past August helping to prepare the team for the area competition.
